Nile Crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus)

By far the largest carnivore in Africa, the Nile crocodile hunts using an ambush technique. It lays in wait near the edge of a river or lake, its body almost completely submerged. When a victim comes into range, the crocodile will leap up to snatch it. Crocodiles and alligators have one of the most powerful bites ever measured in the animal kingdom. It exerts around 2,000 pounds of pressure per square inch. This is equivalent to having a car dropped on you!
